SUMMER IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR

Spring has sprung, finally! Where I live in Steamboat Springs, Co. it has been snowing the last few weeks. I am hoping it will be sunshine and rain showers from now until late Fall. The Aspen trees are full of green leaves, and the tulips and other flowers are blooming everywhere making spring in the Rockies a most  beautiful site. April 16th, 2024 is Arbor Day in Colorado. Many other states observe Arbor Day on many different dates to account for the best tree planting times. Arbor Day is dedicated to the health and growth of our planet and it’s trees. In 1872, a man by the names of J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in Nebraska. The US-based Arbor Day Foundation has helped grow 500 million trees in the past 50 years. The information I have stated here is easily found on the internet.

I love spring time and the coming of Summer. A time for planting a garden with flowers and vegetables, mowing the lawn and maybe even improvements to the home and landscaping. Summer is my favorite season, for camping, paddle boarding, swimming, boating, and many other outdoor activities. I love to plant tomatoes on my deck, and have bonfires in our new firepit, enjoying family gatherings roasting marshmallows and making smores. Summer is the Best!

Another holiday that is observed on May 25th and is a day that touches my heart is National Missing Children’s Day.
This day was commemorated in 1983 by then President Ronald Regan in memory of Etan Patz, a 6 year old boy who disappeared from a New York City street corner on May 25, 1979. His body was never found. Today there are approximately 840,000 children reported missing each year. Every 49 seconds a child goes missing in the United States. Approximately 8 million children are reported missing worldwide each year. The most recent movie based on a true story, “The Sound Of Freedom” was a real eye opener into the most horrific crime that plagues our country and the world. The statistics stated here are from internet findings.

June is the most beautiful month of the Summer. Everything is so green, and the flowering trees are in bloom. Summer begins officially on June 20th, Most Summer weddings are in June, because the weather is beautiful, and not extremely hot. Also, another very popular holiday in June is Fathers Day. I lost my father to Parkinson’s disease in 2008, he was 80 years old. I still miss him every single day. My father was a Navy Veteran and served at Pearl Harbor after the Bombing of Pearl Harbor.  The 3rd Sunday in June is when Fathers Day is celebrated, this year it is June 16th.  We honor our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers, with gifts, parties, BBQ’s, family get togethers, and Love. My website RLHEssentials.com has many wonderful gifts and decorations for a Fathers day Celebration. Remember your father on June 16th, whether he is with you still or has passed on.

Well, it’s time for us to go on our first camping trip of the year. Memorial weekend is coming up and we are going to get in our motorhome and go camping at a Lake in Wyoming to get away from the everyday responsibilities.  Have fun our your Memorial Day weekend whatever you may choose to do.
